The Wheatsheaf
The Wheatsheaf is a large but friendly pub, full or character and ideally
located in the centre of Newport. Whether you are on your office lunch hour or
looking for a break from shopping, the Wheatsheaf will offer you something to
tempt your taste buds. There is a delicious range of daily specials usually
including a pasta and curry of the day, as well as a wide choice from the
standard menu. I have visited the pub on many occasions and have never been
disappointed with the food served.
Recently I popped in for lunch and kicked off with the bacon and mushroom
starter with garlic. The oily sauce was very tasty and there was plenty of
fresh French bread to mop it up! I followed this with the pasta of the day,
ham and leek. This was delicious, as usual, and very rich. I was very full but
just managed to round off my meal with a traditional spotted dick and custard!
I can recommend the Wheatsheaf for a quick snack or for a fuller meal. I've
already decided to try one of their hot filled baguettes on my next visit.
